“Good Morning Herr Gottwald, I got something for you!” – I finally got a call from crew scheduling yesterday and now I am on my way to Dubai. Sitting in the Lufthansa Cargo break-room again, I only have minutes before my briefing starts. The first part of my journey is quite easy: getting on board of LH 630 from Frankfurt to Dubai on board an Airbus A340-600. Today I will be enjoying a Business Class seat with some good (airline) food, watching one or two movies and maybe doing some work for our pilot association Vereinigung Cockpit… And I am even getting paid for it! What else could you want?
Unfortunately I will only have little time to spend in Dubai. I will be arriving around mid-night and set off for Germany tomorrow at noon. So besides sleeping and having something for breakfast, I will not be doing much…
You got called on the fourth day and this made me wonder for how long you guys do normally have standby duty ?
Wish you a good trip back to europe!
Arrived safely in Dubai after a very enjoyable flight and smooth landing by our Airbus colleagues. The first three days were standby and thereafter another three days of “Reserve 12” – in the end its nearly a week.
Thanks for the information!
