While editing some of my photos (I do about 2-10 per day usually) I came across a couple of shots of my beautiful MD-11 freighter that I wanted to share with you! I was on the ramp last winter to do some apron images at night and the MD-11 is always the star of such an event!
I started out at sunset – you might have noticed that I am a big fan of sunset/sunrise photos and especially night shots! I just love it, when you get those colourful blinks and contrasts in an image and an airport is even more interesting during the night with all the lights shining in their different colours. But this time I was rather concentrating on the aircraft itself and not on the general buzz happening around it on the apron.
Tonight’s photo model was D-ALCL, the third-last McDonnell Douglas MD-11 ever produced. Wearing construction number c/n 48804 it was MD-11 number 197 built and never flew passengers, only cargo. It was then delivered to Lufthansa Cargo in November 2000 and the airline has been the sole operator ever since.
Here is a closer look at the engine and the wheels:
A closer look at the wheel well (also known as landing gear compartment or wheel bay) shows a lot of electric und fluid lines – don’t ask me what is what, I am not an aircraft mechanic!
The nose section from underneath and the front of the aircraft:
Last but not least, the MD-11’s tail. If you look closely, you will see its sistership D-ALCC in “Aktion Deutschland Hilft” special colours standing on the apron, as well as a Lufthansa Cargo Boeing 777 freighter.
I hope you enjoyed these images. Let me know what you think and what you would want to see next time!
